Recently Capalaba State College officially opened their brand-new school hall, which now offers students and the wider community a state of the art sporting facility.
Minister for Education and Minister for Youth Justice Di Farmer and Member for Capalaba and Chief Whip Don Brown visited the school on January 24 to mark the momentous occasion and tour the facility.
Mr Brown said this project was a key election promise he is pleased to have delivered and is encouraged by the excitement from the school and community.
“It’s a really exciting day for Capalaba State College, we’re delivering a new hall,” he said.
“I know how much this means to students, teachers and Capalaba State College P&C to have their own state of the art facility.
“I also know how eager the rest of the sporting community is to utilise the Hall outside of school hours and when available.”
Mr Brown said not only will Capalaba State College students benefit from the hall, but the wider community.
“Local sporting clubs have been desperate for this kind of facility and now we can give this to them.”
This valuable sporting venue has the capacity for basketball, volleyball, badminton, futsal among a long list.
Further, the new facility boasts its own private access entrance with a purpose-built carpark.
Minister Farmer said the Capalaba State College hall is the 78th school hall built since 2015, with another 24 more expected this year.
Capalaba State College Principal Lachlan Thatcher welcomed the good news, remarking on how excited the students are.
Mr Thatcher said previously the whole student body did not fit into the old hall and had to have separate assemblies, however now there is more than enough room for the whole school.
“It means all of our prep to 12 students get to spend time together regularly.”
