After losing a 14-month court battle, the Redland City Council has officially lodged an appeal to stop construction on new NDIS accommodation.
The judge ruled in favor of the developers in light of the new Queensland laws designed to fast-track NDIS housing.
However, the Redland City Council has since applied to overturn the Planning and Environment Court’s decision and stop construction at the 22 Danielle Street, Cleveland site.
State member for Capalaba Don Brown said it was absolutely astonishing the council is spending ratepayer’s money to fight the court decision and stop urgent housing construction.
“I think it’s a disgraceful decision by the Redland City Council,” Mr Brown said.
“To waste hundreds of thousands of dollars in more legal fees to appeal a case they thoroughly lost in the first instance,” he said.
“This will mean further delays to NDIS clients trying to put a roof over their heads.
“There are currently NDIS clients still stuck in beds at Redlands Hospital trying to find accommodation.
“In a housing crisis, the last thing we need is this LNP mayor blocking people with a disability from having a home.
“I hope the new mayor withdraws this appeal once elected.”
