Samples of sewage taken from Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast have tested positive for coronavirus.

Traces of coronavirus were found in Townsville's sewage earlier this month, which Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young said could have been from an asymptomatic person still shedding the virus.

Wastewater in Townsville, in north Queensland, has since tested negative but samples from October 12 and 13 taken at Sandgate, Maroochydore and Wynnum in the state's south-east tested positive.

"It could of course be someone who recently had the infection and then has gone to those places, so they're not infectious, they've recovered but they're still shedding virus, it could be that," Dr Young said.

"But it could of course be a person that we've not picked up, that's out there in the community.

"We have most recently seen, both in Victoria and New South Wales, that when they've had positive results in their sewage, they've gone out then and done more testing and they have found cases.

"That could be happening here in Queensland, so although it's now over a month since we've had an infectious case in the community, we could have an infectious case again any day."

Queensland recorded no new cases of coronavirus overnight.

The state's total remains at 1,164 with four cases still listed as active.

Dr Young said it was "absolutely critical' any new cases were detected as soon as possible for the health system to be able to manage them.

"We don't know how long, someone can continue to shed the virus, we know from other situations you can shed virus for months and months and months, it's probably the case here," she said.

Blood samples from an woman who tested positive, several days after leaving Queensland and arriving in Victoria, have also now tested negative in serology tests.

Dr Young said the samples were taken before the woman left Queensland and before she was showing any symptoms.

"It doesn't confirm anything but it just suggests that she didn't have the infection while she was in Queensland," she said.

The woman had visited several locations in Townsville and Cairns, including medical facilities, before flying to Melbourne on October 7 .

Dr Young said Queensland Health was still waiting on results from tests in Melbourne to confirm the woman's case.

More than $380,000 to over 35 Redlands Coast sporting clubs will restart activities with renewed vigour after being approved up to $20,000 each to spend on minor upgrades, equipment and repairs.

Member for Redlands, Kim Richards, said the $15.5 million Active Restart Infrastructure Recovery Fund would provide a mini-stimulus for Redlands clubs to return to play.

Redlands Rays were one of the recipients, Don and Kim met with James Williams and Eric from the Club yesterday.

“Labor is delivering it’s plan for economic recovery across Queensland and as part of that we’re supporting community clubs to fire the starting gun on reopening,” she said.

“We know that COVID has impacted fundraising capacity, so we’re stepping in to support clubs in their time of need.

Member for Capalaba, Don Brown said Redlands Rays Baseball Club had been awarded more than $18,000 to purchase a new mower so that Club could get back in the game and keep their fields maintained.

“Here in the Redlands we know that COVID-19 has meant some clubs are doing it tough.

“We’ve got some of the finest grassroots sporting clubs in Queensland across a variety of codes and activities that with our support can continue to flourish.

Member for Redlands Kim Richards said this funding support would be flowing to clubs like Redland Bay Tennis Club right away to deliver exciting projects like their courts resurfacing.

“This isn’t an election commitment, it’s part of the Palaszczuk Government’s $51.3 million return to play stimulus package to be invested to support COVID-19 recovery efforts in the sport, recreation and fitness industries.

Approved projects include the purchase of equipment to deliver activities or events, assist in facility maintenance, or to assist with reducing operational costs.

“We have already delivered $7.6 million worth of $2,000 grants to 3,811 clubs across Queensland as part of the COVID SAFE Active Clubs Kickstart program to invest in hygiene or catering supplies, equipment, maintenance, training courses or to pay utilities bills.

“And now more than 35 clubs in our community received this funding and the extra support,” she said.

Whether it’s marquees for a fundraising event, white goods for the canteen, or a fresh coat of paint for the clubhouse, organisations are being provided funding to improve their facilities and purchase relevant equipment to encourage Queenslanders to return to play.

Member for Capalaba, Don Brown said the return to play is possible because Queenslanders have done such an outstanding job of listening to the health advice and keeping each other safe during COVID-19.

Capalaba MP Don Brown wants the Birkdale Station park 'n ride redesigned.

Capalaba MP Don Brown and the Palaszczuk government have committed $317,000 to fund the redesign of Birkdale Train Station park 'n ride if re-elected. Mr Brown said the funding of the design work was an important first step to expanding the car park.

“To see the car park full, while there has been wasted space fenced off right next door has always frustrated me," Mr Brown said.

Mr Brown said despite the cement slab holding some sentimental value to him, as he went to pre-school at the site, it was time to design a car park that removed the slab and joined the two car parks. "Birkdale Station is an important station in the Redlands as it provides one of the easiest access for people with disabilities.

I hope that the new design can also include more disability car spaces," he said.

New $40m Hospital for The Redlands!

New $40m Satellite Hospital for Redlands.

Compare this to the LNP and Deb Frecklington, who shut Wynnum Hospital.

A Satellite Hospital in Redlands will be tailored to the needs of the community and will include ambulatory and low acuity day therapy services such as renal dialysis, chemotherapy, complex wound management and urgent care for minor injury and illness!

This is a great investment for the Redlands area. It will mean our health system can continue to meet the growing demand for services and take pressure off nearby hospitals.
